Position Summary

The Director position is an extremely rewarding and valuable position with Block Parents. Directors will engage with other directors, members, coordinators, and committees to advance the Mission, Mandate, and Goals of the WRBPP

The objective of the Director is to help Create a Healthy and Safe Community by volunteering as a Director on the Waterloo Regional Block Parent® Program Board of Directors.

Volunteer Position Duties & Functions

  • Attends monthly Board of Directors meetings to discuss current progress, challenges, and action plans
  • Annually reviews and approves the organization’s operating budget
  • Participates in the approval of recommendations after fair debate according to the organization’s mission and vision
  • Participates in annual and long term planning sessions
  • Promotes volunteerism with Block Parents in the community
  • Participates on event planning committees
  • Takes the lead on projects as needed
  • Keeps up to date with legislation and policy related to Board Governance and assists in any necessary modifications to accommodate changes
  • Is familiar with organization’s by-laws, standing rules, and orientation guide

ORIENTATION & TRAINING

  • All Director/Coordinator Nominees must participate in a three month orientation process that begins at the Information Session
  • Attend the Information Session, an interview, and three board meetings
  • After the orientation process has been completed, the Board of Directors will hold an election to vote the nominee onto the board

COMMITMENT REQUIRED

  • One Year commitment
  • On average 4 hours per month
  • Encouraged to participate in Block Parent events

Position Summary

The Block Walker Coordinator (BWC) is an extremely rewarding and valuable position with Block Parents. The BWC will engage with other directors, members, coordinators, and committees to advance the Mission, Mandate, and Goals of the WRBPP

The objective of the Block Walker Coordinator is to create a Healthy and Safe Community by encouraging Active Transportation within the Region of Waterloo

Volunteer Position Duties

The BWC will support Canadian Cancer Society’s Waterloo Region Walking School Bus program and other active transportation programs.

The Waterloo Region Walking School Bus (WRWSB) program serves the Region of Waterloo and works in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and is supported by the Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRST) committee and Region of Waterloo Public Health. (ROWPH)

The BWC will volunteer to support the CCS WRWSB Coordinator by assisting in the implementation of Walking School Bus programs at schools within the Region.

Volunteer Position Functions

  • Attend school meetings in a supporting role to the CCS WRWSB Coordinator
  • Facilitate school-owned WRWSB Committee Training
  • Recruit WRWSB Walk Leaders
  • Host WRWSB Walk Leader Training
  • Promote Waterloo Region Walking School Bus program within the Region
  • Engage in strategic partnerships within the Region
  • Represent the Waterloo Regional Block Parent® Program at school events

Board of Directors Duties

  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings to discuss current progress, challenges, and action plans
  • Participate annually in the review and approval of the organization’s operating budget
  • Participate in the approval of recommendations after fair debate according to the organization’s Mission and Vision
  • Participate in annual and long-term planning sessions

Position Summary

The Marketing & Communication Coordinator is an extremely rewarding and valuable position with Block Parents. The Coordinator will engage with other directors, members, coordinators, and committees to advance the Mission, Mandate, and Goals of the WRBPP.

Volunteer Position Duties & Functions

Assist in marketing tasks such as the development of media communications; including social media strategies resulting in an increase of WRBPP’s followers.

Assist in research and analysis of like-minded organizations.

Update and maintain twitter and facebook accounts.

Assist Web Designer in organizing and maintaining Block Parent website.

Liaise with Program Coordinators to design and produce appropriately branded marketing materials including (but not limited to): Pamphlets, Brochures, Posters, Newsletters, Notices etc. for all Block Parent Programs

Board of Directors Duties

Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings to discuss current progress, challenges, and action plans.

Participate annually in the review and approval of the organization’s operating budget.

Participate in the approval of recommendations after fair debate according to the organization’s Mission and Vision.

Participate in annual and long-term planning sessions.

Position Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator is an extremely rewarding and valuable position with Block Parents. The Volunteer Coordinator will engage with other directors, members, coordinators, and committees to advance the Mission, Mandate, and Goals of the WRBPP

The objective of the Volunteer Coordinator (VC) is to create a Healthy and Safe Community by recruiting volunteers to the Block Parent Board of Directors and assisting Program Coordinators in recruiting volunteers to their programs

Volunteer Position Duties & Functions

  • Work closely with directors, coordinators, and committees who require volunteers to advance their functions
  • Create and manage volunteer position postings via the Volunteer Action Centre database and other volunteer sources in Waterloo Region
  • Manage volunteer position postings on advertising boards, newspaper, radio, TV, social media; when and where applicable
  • Develop and maintain recruiting initiatives
  • Process screen, and provide orientation for new volunteers
  • Maintain an active contact list of volunteers for programs and events
  • Maintain communication with active volunteers
  • Promote volunteerism with the WRBPP in the community
  • Assist committees in planning and implementing volunteer events
  • Approve of expenses submitted by volunteers for reimbursement
  • Keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering and make any necessary modifications to accommodate changes
  • Develop and execute a volunteer evaluation program including annual reviews and exit interviews

Board of Directors Duties

Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings to discuss current progress, challenges, and action plans.

Participate annually in the review and approval of the organization’s operating budget.

Participate in the approval of recommendations after fair debate according to the organization’s Mission and Vision.
